Student Experience: A Semester Abroad
Nicolas Acosta — Graduate BA Management in International Business.
„My Erasmus mobility was one of the best experiences of my educational and personal life. I’m very grateful to Erasmus for giving me the opportunity to participate in this program.“
Nicolas AcostaAbout Erasmus+
HdWM has been an accredited Erasmus+ institution since 2014, enabling students to spend a semester at one of our European partner universities with full credit recognition. The programme promotes international experience, intercultural competence, and personal development while enhancing career opportunities. HdWM also welcomes exchange students from partner universities across Europe.
Incoming students
Everything incoming Erasmus+ students need — from applying and deadlines to course catalogues, documents and preparing your stay in Mannheim.
To take part in the Erasmus+ programme at HdWM, you first need to contact the Erasmus coordinator at your home institution to express your interest. You can only study under the Erasmus+ programme if your home university has an Erasmus agreement in place with us.
After the successful completion of your application at your home university, you must then be officially nominated for the exchange program at HdWM. You can take a look at the HdWM Erasmus Key Data Sheet.
At German universities, the academic year is divided into two terms: winter semester and sommer semester. The winter semester begins officially on October 1st and ends on March 31st. The summer semester begins on April 1st and ends on September 30th.

Module handbooks for the programmes open to exchange students:
At our university, courses are taught in English and German. Therefore, you must at least have a B2 level (according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) in English or C1 in German. For all questions concerning courses and study programmes, students may contact the corresponding Erasmus departmental coordinator.
The Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027 (ECHE) is issued by the Europea Commission. It proves that a university fulfils all requirements for a successful participation in the Erasmus programme. The University of Applied Management Studies (HdWM) received the Erasmus+ university charter for the current runtime (2021-2027) and is therefore entitled to participate in the programme.
This document informs students about their rights and responsibilities, and what they can expect from their home institution and the receiving university or company during each phase of the programme. It is handed out to all students before their stay abroad.

Everything for your arrival, stay and departure:
Getting along in a foreign country without speaking the language can be quite challenging. Although German skills are not required in the English track study programmes, they can help in everyday situation such as shopping or while applying as a working student in a German company. HdWM therefore offers German classes on all levels in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut Mannheim.
