Prepared for tomorrow's challenges: As a business school, we believe that we should not only prepare our students ideally for their career start, but also equip them with the necessary management skills for a successful management career. To this end, the HdWM's degree programs are constantly being developed and adapted to current events, requirements, and future trends in the market that influence management, the economy, society, and the world of work. For example, all of our degree programs are currently being expanded to include the topic of artificial intelligence in order to prepare our students for the future of management in the best possible way. Our understanding of sustainable and successful management skills is reflected in all of our degree programs – whether in the field of business psychology, social work, or, of course, business management.

Secure your place at university now with the best future prospects!
Our social and economic systems are undergoing multifaceted transformations that have one thing in common: they are complex, their outcome is uncertain, and they are disruptive. To ensure our future viability, we need management skills that can deal with precisely these issues. Unconventional solutions are required that cannot be derived linearly. And they must be developed in times when we can hardly fall back on what is “known” and “experienced.”
Responsible management of complex situations and systems is therefore of central importance. It requires a holistic understanding of management that can be applied exactly where it is needed: in commercial enterprises, social organizations, and public institutions. And this must always be done in dynamic interaction with people and systems. Our traditional approach to management must therefore be broadened. In addition to solid management skills, it is essential that today's managers are able to comprehensively grasp and assess situations in all their complexity and draw the right conclusions. To do this, they also need a basic repertoire of management skills that will help them to cope with critical and crisis situations: flexibility, personal responsibility, willingness to change and continue learning, interdisciplinary, networked thinking, the ability to reflect, and the ability to manage themselves.
It is of central importance that this is also anchored in the curricula of educational institutions. This is already a fundamental component of our degree programs at HdWM. New learning and teaching approaches create the necessary framework for developing these skills. This is at the heart of our work at HdWM. Our mission is to train successful managers in a wide range of fields, both nationally and internationally. A. Business Management and Business Psychology
Modern management needs psychology. That is why it is our mission to train successful managers in various fields. Management is of great importance to business psychology, even if only some of the students of business psychology aspire to leadership positions: On the one hand, business administration is the most important related subject to business psychology. Management skills and their practical application constantly feed new developments into business psychology. This applies, for example, to the pressure on companies to attract and retain employees. Or to modern technologies that enable mobile forms of work and at the same time require new forms of employee management. Business psychology provides sound knowledge and techniques for effectively coping with new requirements in questions such as these.
On the other hand, management is also a target group. Managers are people who may be under psychological pressure, for example, and who should keep an eye on their own health in addition to their professional performance. Managers can often benefit from psychological expertise. Psychology provides knowledge on how to promote personal stress management, awareness of one's own resources, resilience, and mindfulness. Especially in an increasingly fast-paced world and a time full of change and uncertainty, psychological stress must be kept within limits so that work productivity and quality of life can be maintained.
Furthermore, “managing” also means performing tasks well. Psychology provides knowledge on how people, regardless of whether they have leadership responsibilities or not, can better meet their requirements. For example, how can we help ourselves to set realistic goals, organize our learning material effectively, or manage our emotions even better?
Business psychology and management are therefore inseparable; they are interconnected in many ways. This is also reflected in our range of courses.
The changes and challenges facing our society and everyday life require a high degree of adaptability and constantly new solution strategies. Today, this also applies in particular to specialists and managers in social work. Anyone who wants to help others out of difficult situations needs a structured framework for their own work. Good management skills and self-organization can help to counter changes and bottlenecks caused by a shortage of skilled workers, digitalization, and social upheaval—from street workers to managers. Studying social work at HdWM teaches the necessary management tools and theories without losing sight of the human aspect.
In addition, social work services must increasingly be provided with a focus on economic efficiency and sustainability. Social services and organizational structures in social work are increasingly being evaluated in terms of effectiveness and efficiency. Social institutions are increasingly developing into complex “social-economic organizations” for which management competence is a key success factor.
The holistic thinking taught in our management degree programs, as well as flexibility, personal responsibility, willingness to change and continue learning, interdisciplinary, networked thinking, reflective thinking, and the ability to manage oneself, are therefore also part of our curriculum for the “Social Work” degree program at HdWM. New learning and teaching approaches create the necessary framework for developing these skills. This is at the heart of our work at HdWM. It is our mission to successfully train social workers who are also the competent social managers of tomorrow.
