Teaching and Research
at HdWM

The unity of research and teaching is a cornerstone of the University of Applied Management Studies (HdWM). Besides our teaching, we are active in research and developing projects in all kind of areas.

The research results of HdWM do not just contribute to science, the practical reference to problems in business practice also allows our partner companies to profit from the outcome of this research. This gives both parties the chance to improve their quality and continue a successful development.

Our Mission is stated in our Name: “UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED MANAGEMENT STUDIES”

According to the English name of our university, HdWM carries out application-oriented research by involving our students, taking commissions from businesses and participating in public calls for proposals.

Key areas of research include topics in economics, business administration and management. Our research focusses on the academic content of our interdisciplinary degree programmes, but also on the interests of the businesses and the demands of the labour market in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region. Almost every bachelor’s degree programme offers a special research module before the internship in the third semester. In this case study, our students conduct their own research work for the first time. In the Master’s in International Business Management, students can choose between an eight-week research project or a management internship.

These are the main research areas at HdWM:

  • Integration strategies on the labour market
  • Demand for labour in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region
  • Study-to-Work counselling in the Rhine-Neckar metropolitan region
  • Engagement in the transition from school to professional training
  • Trends in Human Resource Management
  • Further education

HdWM also founded research projects and institutes of its own: QUAPI and the Institut für soziale Nachhaltigkeit (ifsn) – the institute for social sustainability – make major contributions to the HdWM research activities.

QUAPI – Academic Further Education without Limits

The project QUAPI is a subsidised by the European Social Fund (ESF) and the state of Baden-Wurttemberg for the development and expansion of academic further education by universities in the federal state.

The over-arching goal of the project, is to meet the specific demands of professionally experienced people in the workforce with respect to their needs and desires for professional qualifications. This will help to cover the demand for specialised personnel in Baden-Wurttemberg.

The aim of QUAPI is to equally master the problems of social and economic policies. Therefore, it specifically focuses on the yet relatively untapped potential of professional and experienced professional people with migration background. Also, it wants to assist the recently immigrated and those who are likely to immigrate from the Middle and Near East during the next years to come.

Europäischer Sozialfonds Ministerium der Kunst, Wissenschaft und Forschung Baden-Württemberg European Union

QUAPI is funded by the Ministry for Social Affairs and Integration Baden-Wurttemberg from funds by the European Social Fund (ESF) as well as the Ministry of Science, Research and Art Baden-Wurttemberg.
